Staff changes announced at Putnam County Museum

Friday, February 26, 2016

The Putnam County Museum has appointed current Assistant Director Lisa Harris Mock to the position of interim executive director, effective March 1.

Executive Director Kit Newkirk recently announced her resignation from the position effective Feb. 26.

Mock joined the Museum in February 2015. Since then she has led efforts to update policies and procedures for documenting, handling and storing of artifacts and oral histories. She has also guided and supported interns, volunteers and donors in museum activity, including accessions, exhibits, events and membership.

Over the past two years, Newkirk has updated policies and procedures, streamlined operations, trimmed budget items and recruited and supported many volunteer initiatives.

Newkirk procured grants that funded, among others, a collections care initiative, an oral history initiative and LED lighting throughout the exhibit areas.

She organized the updating of the gift shop and improved the museum website and Facebook presence, advancing both the museum's outreach and its reputation as an organization that other museums wish to emulate.

The board of directors, members and volunteers of the museum all join in thanking Newkirk for her commitment to the museum.

Meanwhile, the museum is preparing to open its annual county-wide Student Art Show on Saturday, March 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Also upcoming is the 15th annual Membership Meeting and election of officers on Sunday, March 6 from 4-5:30 p.m. at the 1105 N. Jackson St., Greencastle, location.
