The American Legion Post 58 made a large donation to the Cunot Community Food Bank recently.

The donation was the first of many as the organization launches its annual food drive to benefit local food banks from smaller communities. This particular drive has been building since after Thanksgiving.

"Our biggest project is to our veterans and their families, but the general public is right in there with the needy," Secretary-Treasurer Brenda O-Brien said. "We are trying to outreach into the county because our members are from all over, and there's really a big need now."

She was referring to the time after the Christmas holidays when giving slows down.

Usually only members donate, but O'Brien said the community is welcome to participate. Interested citizens can contact the post at 653-8939.
