Lee H. Hamilton, the 1952 DePauw University graduate who has been called "Mr. Integrity" by Newsweek, will return to campus on Thursday, March 3.

The Hoosier Democrat who served 34 years in the U.S. House of Representatives and was recently awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom will take part in an informal discussion that is part of a mini-symposium on the Syrian crisis and its implications for U.S. immigration and asylum policy.

The program will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the ballroom of the Memorial Student Union Building.

A question-and-answer session will follow the discussion, and lunch will be provided. The event is presented free of charge and is open to the public.

A history major and basketball standout at DePauw, Lee Hamilton is now director of the Center on Congress at Indiana University, a Distinguished Scholar at the Indiana University School of Global and International Studies, and a Professor of Practice in the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

After retiring from Congress, Hamilton served as vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission and co-chairman of the Iraq Study Group.

Hamilton has also received the Churchill Award for Statesmanship, the Eisenhower Medal for exceptional leadership, the Distinguished Service Award from the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress, and the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute Freedom From Fear Award, among many other honors. He's also a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and DePauw's Athletic Hall of Fame.

Congressman Hamilton has been a frequent visitor to DePauw over the years and delivered a 2011 Ubben Lecture and the commencement addresses in 1971 and 1998.
