Monday, February 29, 2016

Making its 13th consecutive Women's NCAA Division III Championship appearance and 17th in the last 21 years, DePauw (22-6) opens tournament play on Friday, March 4, at Wisconsin-Stevens Point (20-7).

The Tigers will face the host Pointers at 7:30 p.m. CST. The other first-round matchup features 27-0 George Fox against 21-4 St. Norbert with a 5 p.m. CST tip.

The Tigers earned a spot in the 64-team women's field by winning the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday.

DePauw opened with a 56-46 win over Wittenberg on Tuesday before topping Kenyon, 59-58, in Friday's semifinal on Emily Budde's buzzer-beating three-pointer. The Tigers then defeated Allegheny, 83-53, in the championship game.

Wisconsin-Stevens Point earned an at-large bid to the tournament after falling to Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 38-21, in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal.

The teams have three common opponents. DePauw defeated Illinois Wesleyan on Nov. 28 at Washington University by a 70-54 score, while Stevens Point topped the Titans, 68-50, on the road on Dec. 12. The Tigers dropped a 47-41 decision at Washington University on Nov. 29, while the Pointers topped the Bears on Nov. 20 in a game at University of Chicago.

Each team also faced Wisconsin-Eau Claire with the Tigers dropping a 55-50 decision at home on Dec. 29. Stevens Point beat Eau Claire, 59-52, at home on Jan. 6 and lost, 59-57, on the road on Feb. 13.

DePauw is making its 17th NCAA Division III appearance with an all-time record of 31-14, including national titles in 2007 and 2013 and a third-place finish in 2002.

The 31 wins rank in a tie for seventh among current Division III members. Only Washington University, with 27 straight appearances, has a longer streak of consecutive appearances than DePauw's 13.

Wisconsin-Stevens Point is 23-9 in NCAA Division III play and is making its 11th appearance. The Pointers won the championship in 1987 and 2002 and placed fourth in 2004.

General admission tickets are available only at the door and are $8 for adults and $4 for students college age and under.
