Lady Tiger lacrosse loses in last minute

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan's Clarke Rich scored with 1:39 left and gave the host Titans an 8-7 win over visiting DePauw.

DePauw dropped to 1-1, while the Titans improved to 3-0.

Illinois Wesleyan jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with three goals in the first three minutes. Lauren Pavich scored just 55 seconds into the contest before Kelly Grainne added two scores in a 39-second span.

Taylor Summers stopped the Titans' run with 26:28 left in the first half on an assist from Nicole Gibson before Illinois Wesleyan's Abby Kushina made it 4-1 with 18:30 remaining in the half.

DePauw, however, scored five straight over the final 13 minutes of the half as Emma Flynn scored three with Gibson and Madi Lozanoski adding one apiece.

The Titans evened the count at 6-6 in the second half before Flynn gave the Tigers a 7-6 advantage with 15:02 left. Pavich knotted the score at 7-7 with 12:16 remaining before Rich delivered the game winner on Pavich's assist.

Flynn paced DePauw with four goals, while Gibson had one goal and three assists. Rich, Grainne and Pavich each had two goals for the Titans with Pavich adding three assists.

Lozanoski won seven draws for DePauw, while Stef Buffa and Emily Scinta each had two ground balls. Dani Engelbreit paced the Titans with four ground balls.

Liz Hawkins recorded eight saves in goal for the Tigers, while Claire Quist totaled nine for Illinois Wesleyan.

Each team totaled 19 shots and 16 on goal, while DePauw won 12 of the 17 draws. The Titans held a 23-10 edge in ground balls.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, March 5, when it hosts North Central (Ill.) in a 2 p.m. contest.ys at Michigan on Saturday.
