County Jail

Several people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 11 a.m. on Friday, Tommy Gardner, 48, Brazil, was lodged at the jail for nonsupport of a dependent.

At 3 p.m. Donnie Greggs, 81, Indianapolis, was taken into custody on a Hendricks County warrant.

At 6:30 p.m. Jordan Villarreal, 18, Ladoga, was charged with trespassing and residential entry.

At 8:10 p.m. Marvin Lee Baker, 57, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and possession of a synthetic or lookalike drug.

* At 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Joanna Reynolds, 23, Greencastle, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of a schedule drug.

At 2:30 p.m. Walter Kevin Reiss, 40, Greencastle, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, operating never receiving a license and on a warrant.

At 7:53 p.m. Charles Julian Smith, 26, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for possession of marijuana and neglect of a dependent.

At 8:13 p.m. Chelsea Ann Steele, 25, Greencastle, was taken into custody for possession of marijuana and neglect of a dependent.

* At 7:10 a.m. on Sunday, Brian Alexander Hubbard, 22, Roachdale, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

City Police

One additional recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday Ruby Lee, 49, Greencastle, was arrested for invasion of piracy.

Lee was arrested by Officer Matt Huffman at a Leach Street residence.

In another recent incident, Dylan Terry, 22, Coatesville, will be summoned into court on a possession of marijuana charge after a traffic stop in the city's South End.

* At 9:36 p.m. Sunday, Terry was stopped at Maple and Howard streets by Officer Elsiana Crosby.

Two recent traffic mishaps were investigated by city officers.

* At 6:04 p.m. March 3, a two-vehicle accident occurred on the Walmart parking lot as Emmitt Eastes, 16, Reelsvile, was driving a 2013 Ford on a learner's permit, Officer Huffman reported, when Susan Lanham, 65, Bainbridge, began backing a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder, from a handicapped space in front of the store.

Although Eastes' mother reached over from the passenger's seat to blow the horn to alert Lanham, a collision still occurred.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

* At 4:46 p.m. March 4, a two-vehicle mishap occurred on Avenue D as the pickups were being backed from driveways on the opposite sides of the street.

Jared Jernagan, 35, Greencastle, was backing a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup from his driveway while Larry Overshiner, 61, Greencastle, had begun to back his 2000 GMC Sonoma from his driveway and the collision occurred, Sgt. Ed Wilson reported.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County sheriff's deputies have responded to several recent crashes.

* At 10:41 p.m. on Friday, Aleshia Gubser, 21, Mecca, was eastbound on County Road 350 North approaching a sharp curve in a 2006 Dodge Magnum.

Gubser told Deputy Virgil Lanning she wasn't familiar with the area and she failed to negotiate the curve. The vehicle ran off the road and hit a utility pole, which snapped.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 10:47 p.m. on Saturday, Kodie T. Burroughs, 30, Brazil, was southbound on U.S. 231 just south of County Road 300 South in a 2007 Chevrolet HHR. Zachary T. Reichle, 21, Indianapolis, was northbound at the same location in a 2000 Chevrolet S10.

Burroughs told Deputy Lanning he saw a small pickup truck cross the center line into his lane. He said he couldn't avoid the collision and the truck hit his driver's side door, causing him to spin around and come to rest facing north.

Burroughs said the other driver stopped to assess damage but eventually drove away.

Reichle said he believed he was hit by a red passenger car, but gave a differing account of what happened afterward. Reichle told Laning that he stopped to check damage and saw the car he believed hit him drive away.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

* At 10:56 p.m. on Saturday, Deputy Mike Downing arrived in the area of U.S. 36 and County Road 500 West to find a 2004 Nissan Quest approximately 25 feet off the road.

The driver, Nicholas L. Bennett, 25, Greencastle, and his wife Amber Thompson were sitting in the car.

Bennett told Downing he had been distracted while driving, causing the accident.

Downing smelled the odor of alcohol and conducted a field sobriety test, followed by a portable breath test, which indicate a .14 blood-alcohol content.

Downing detained Bennett and took him to Putnam County Jail, where he tested at .118 BAC.

Bennett was booked into the jail at 12:32 a.m. on Sunday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000. The vehicle was towed.

* At 8:50 p.m. on Monday, Kandi R. Collins, 34, Cloverdale, was southbound on State Road 243 just south of U.S. 40 in a 2007 Ford F150 when she hit a deer.

Deputy Matt Biggs estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to three dispatches and two medical assists.

* At 11:36 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 330 Greenwood Ave. The cause of the alarm was unable to be determined.

* At 6:42 p.m. on Monday, GFD assisted the Greencastle Police Department with an impromptu-repair of a vehicle involved in a collision at 507 N. Jackson St. in efforts to quickly clear the vehicle from the roadway.

* At 7:08 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD fixed a malfunctioning sprinkler pipe at Heartland Automotive, 300 S. Warren Dr.
