PUTNAMVILLE -- A female visitor to the Putnamville Correctional Facility (PCF) has been arrested on a preliminary charge of conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance with an inmate, PCF Superintendent Brian Smith reports.

Conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance is a Level 5 felony.

Mary Toliver, 55, of Indianapolis, surrendered Suboxone and heroin that was on her person to investigators and intelligence officers during a routine visit Tuesday in the facility's Visiting Center.

Upon her admission to attempting to bring in narcotics, Toliver was arrested and transported to the Putnam County Jail, wher she was bookedin at 2:50 p.m. She is also facing the additional charge of possession of a controlled substance.

The inmate who was scheduled to visit with Toliver was Anthony Sanders, 54, Indianapolis. He has been placed in restricted housing at the facility pending the outcome of a continuing internal investigation.

Sanders is currently serving a 20-year sentence out of Marion County for dealing in cocaine, a Class B felony.

PCF Superintendent Smith commended his staff for its attention to detail that led to discovery of the attempted trafficking offense.

"We are extremely proud for the dedication our staff shows every day to maintain the safety of everyone in our facility and community," Smith praised.

  • The reality is per volume of contraband with drugs is not the result of Visitors. They've had staff od , that knew were users. 1 case was presented for review to the Police Investigators which found him not under the influence, yet later he too would die. They would also discover cocaine within the segregation unit taped under a Sergeant or Lieutenant,s desk.
