Beech Grove to celebrate anniversary

Friday, March 11, 2016

Beech Grove United Methodist Church will celebrate the 59th anniversary of reopening the church on Sunday, March 13.

Worship service is set for 11 a.m. with a pitch-in dinner to follow.

The church was closed for six years before a petition was taken around in 1957 by Hila Brattain and Mary Shokwiler, both deceased, and Helen Knauer, who remains an active member of the church. She will give the history of the church that morning.

At that time, the building had one room with carbite lights and two wood stoves. Today the church has six rooms.

Pastor Fred Brasel is the minister and his wife Faith serves alongside him.

Church members invite everyone to come join them. Anyone with any past connection to the church is especially welcome.

The church is located in Putnam County near the Parke County line in Clinton Township, three miles south of U.S. 36.

Palm Sunday service is set for 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 20. Maundy Thursday service will take place at 7 p.m. on March 24, with Good Friday to follow at 7 p.m. on March 25.

Easter service is set for 8 a.m. on March 27 with Pastor Frank Brasel. A pitch-in breakfast will follow.
