Emergency agencies to conduct mock disaster Saturday

The Putnam County Emergency Management Agency will conduct a full-scale exercise on Saturday morning in southwestern Greencastle.

The mock disaster, performed in conjunction with several local emergency agencies as well as DePauw University, will require agencies to respond as if it is a real emergency, so residents should not be alarmed at the activity in the area.

Citizens with scanners should not be concerned at the increase in radio traffic, as this is also part of the exercise. However, all radio exchanges pertaining to the mock event should include the word "exercise."

The event should roughly run from 8 a.m. through noon.

Further information about the exact nature of the exercise are not available, as it needs to remain a surprise, particularly to those responders involved.
