Dave Varvel retirement open house set Thursday at City Hall

Building inspector Dave Varvel, who has worked for the City of Greencastle for more than 40 years, is retiring and will be feted with a retirement party Thursday, March 31.

The reception is set for 4-6 p.m. at City Hall, 1 N. Locust St. Cake and punch will be served and the public is encouraged to attend.

Varvel, who has worked for the city since June 1973, has been the building inspector with the Greencastle Fire Department (GFD) Building Division since January 2004.

The Building Division is responsible for inspecting residential and commercial projects; including any and all plumbing, electrical, mechanical, structural framing, commercial hood systems and fire suppression systems.

In addition to GFD, Varvel has worked for the Wastewater Department, Greencastle Building and Planning, and will be hanging up his boots after holding down the GFD staff position of building inspector.

In all, he has worked for the city in some capacity for more than 42 years.
