First 100 Men event of 2016 set

Sunday, April 3, 2016

The 100+Men Who Care of Putnam County will launch its second year Thursday, April 7 at the Inn at DePauw.

The gathering will begin at 5:30 p.m. with free food and soft drinks and a cash bar.

A Putnam County non-for-profit or church-sponsored community project, or unit of government will be chosen to receive $10,000.

An impressive 119 men participated in the local organization in 2015.

"We were blessed by the participation last year," coordinator Scott Davis said. "These men were excited their $100 check would become a significant donation to a 100 percent local charity four times a year."

Awards were made in 2015 to Imagination Library ($11,400), Beyond Homeless Inc. ($11,600), CareNet ($11,900 and Area 30 Adult Education CNC Program ($11,900).

The Putnam County chapter of 100+ Men Who Care meets four times a year to award a big check to a Putnam County 501c3 charity.

In addition, a contribution of $100 is made to the Putnam County Community Foundation which provides organizational support and contributes to growing an endowed community fund.

In 2016 the fund is projected to grow to $37,500 due to the generosity of the Lilly Endowment Lilly VI GIFT Matching Initiative and a foundation matching grant.
