City Police arrest two for disturbance in front of CVS

Tuesday, April 5, 2016

Greencastle City Police officers were called to the Indianapolis Road-Percy Julian Drive area Monday night to investigate two pedestrians reportedly impeding traffic in front of the CVS Pharmacy.

Just after 7 p.m., GPD Officer Brad Hiatt and Reserve Officer Billy Wallace arrived at the scene where one of the subjects, identified as Elijah D. Isenhower, 25, of Danville, was found to be in illegal possession of two syringes and was taken to the Putnam County Jail.

The other subject, later identified as Anthony M. Leonard, 20, of Greencastle, originally gave a false/fictitious name when asked about his identity, claiming to be Christopher Owens from Ohio.

However, when GPD Capt. Charles Inman responded to the East Side scene, he recognized the suspect as Anthony Leonard because of previous contacts that included an incident at McClure's gas station where Leonard was wearing a gas mask while pacing back and forth in front of the Bloomington Street building.

Prior to Leonard being correctly identified, GPD officers attempted to take Leonard into custody to get him properly identified.

The suspect physically resisted, police said, refusing to allow officers to place him in handcuffs and failing to obey officers' orders.

Leonard then fled on foot from the CVS parking lot, running south past Avenue B and Avenue C while being pursued by Officers Hiatt and Wallace.

Upon catching up to him, Officer Wallace deployed his Taser, which subdued Leonard, allowing Officer Hiatt to detain him.

Leonard was taken into custody by Officer Hiatt and booked in at the Putnam County Jail for disorderly conduct, false informing and resisting law enforcement. Charges are pending review by the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office.
