CLOVERDALE - South Putnam avenged its home loss Tuesday after falling 6-3 to Cloverdale Monday. The Eagles held onto hope after scoring its runs early and used late-game defense to pull out the 7-6 win.

Haiden Harbert-Davis got things started with a single in the first inning that turned into a run for CHS but South Putnam countered with two runs at the top of the second inning. A passed ball allowed Aiden LeBlanc a score and Daniel Grundlock recorded an RBI when his ground out scored Kyle Hall.

Cloverdale however stayed competitive by scoring in each of the first four innings. Fulkjerson earned the score in the second, Tyce Jackson made it home after his double in the third and the Clovers scored two runs in the fourth thanks to Davis and Nick Winders.

South Putnam however managed to stay on top due to runs scored by both Grady McHugh and Brandon Gierke in the third inning and then in the fourth it was Dylan Wood and Gierke.

"A big part of our victory was senior leadership," Eagle coach Zack Love said. "We've got a great group of seniors on the team. They were able to keep our younger guys focused and ultimately that is what led to the 'w' tonight."

After a scoreless fifth inning Cloverdale managed to tie the score at six in the sixth as Nick Winings scored Parker Watts.

But The Eagles were once again ready to respond and when Kody Britton got on base with a single it was Grundlock who scored him for the Go-ahead run.

"He was throwing a nice curveball and after that he was throwing some crazy pitches but mostly it was just right down the middle," Grundlock said. "That last hit I got was right down the middle. That was a big part of it."

Tony Meyer said his Clovers will have its work cut out in the next few games as Cloverdale will be facing the toughest talent in the county.

"Gierke came in and did a solid job for them pitching and then Dylan Wood is a solid ball player," CHS coach Tony Meyer said. " With the Scanland kid from Greencastle, (Duke) Duff, (Kyler) Jeter and Brayden White form Greencastle we have a week of going up against the six of seven candidates for Player of the year."

CHS' next game is Friday at home against WIC division rival North Putnam.

The Eagles will next play Saturday against North Central.
