PUTNAMVILLE -- An overturned semi in western Putnam County has slowed traffic in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70, Indiana State Police reported.

The first report of the accident came from the ISP Putnamville Post's twitter feed at 11:49 a.m., with Sgt. Joe Watts reporting that troopers and other emergency agencies were responding to an overturned semi near the 31-mile marker, approximately 10 miles west of Cloverdale.

Subsequent reports have the crash nearer the 30-mile marker. No injuries were reported and there is no lane blockage.

However, motorists in the area are encouraged to use caution.

State police have currently given no further information about the crash, but pictures from the scene indicate the tractor-trailer left the roadway, traveled down a small embankment and entered a wooded area, causing extensive damage to the tractor.

  • It is amazing how quickly news like this is transmitted today. Twenty years ago someone had to drive to an exit, look for a pay phone and call the police. We are living in the age of "The Jetson's".
