Always an audience favorite and a longstanding tradition within the DePauw University School of Music, the annual Concerto Competition Winners' Concert will be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10 in the Green Center's Kresge Auditorium.

The DePauw University Orchestra, under the musical direction of Orcenith Smith, will accompany the soloists.

The popular performance showcases the talents of exceptional student musicians selected during the schoolwide competition offered each year during the spring semester. In the preliminary round of auditions, DePauw School of Music faculty determined the initial group of finalists. These students then performed, in turn, for a panel of guest adjudicators from outside the university, who selected the seven winners the audience will hear this Sunday.

Sophomore violinist Mei Fujisato will open the winners' concert with the first movement of Brahms's Violin Concerto No. 1, which will be followed by junior soprano Julia Massicotte's aria "Vorrei Spiegarvi" by Mozart and sophomore clarinetist Natalia Fumero's performance of Bassi's "Fantasie da Concerto on Rigoletto Themes." Junior Peter Lockman will then play the allegretto movement from Shostakovich's Cello Concerto. Tenor Dallas Gray will take the stage to sing "Vainement, ma bien- aimée" from Lalo's opera "Le Roi d'Ys" ("The King of Ys"), followed by junior cellist Peter Kim, who will perform David Popper's "Hungarian Rhapsody." Senior soprano Julie Strauser will conclude Sunday's concert with the delightfully comic coloratura aria "Una voce poco fa" from Rossini's opera "Il barbieri di Siviglia."

"The judges once again commented on what a wonderful set of performers we have this year," noted Smith, who directed the competition and will also conduct the concert. "It is a pleasure and an honor for the orchestra to support these talent students and their hard work."

General admission to the Concerto Winners' Concert is $3. Tickets for seniors, youth and all students are free thanks to season sponsors Judson and Joyce Green.

Tickets may be obtained in person at the venue's box office beginning one hour prior to the performance or at any time online (www.music.depauw.edu).
