County Jail

Six people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Walter Warren, 31, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail on a warrant.

At 11:10 a.m. Nathan Anthony Hoffman, 27, Adel, was taken into custody on a warrant.

At 4:40 p.m. Benjamin Coy, 36, Indianapolis, was lodged a the jail on a warrant.

* At 2:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Shawnya Kay Paugh, 35, Cloverdale, was arrested on a warrant.

At 12:10 p.m. James Randall Webb, 62, Cloverdale, was booked in on a warrant.

At 1:15 p.m. William McCullough, 25, Brazil, was housed at the jail for operating while intoxicated and operating while intoxicated with a prior conviction.

City Police

A 35-year-old Greencastle man was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated following a one-vehicle accident Tuesday on Indianapolis Road.

About 1 p.m., Fount Thomas Brock was reportedly westbound on Indianapolis Road when Cloverdale Officer Tyler Turner observed his vehicle go off the north side of the roadway.

Brock's vehicle brushed a utility pole and hit a stopsign and a gasline marker before coming to rest on the concrete island at the east entrance to Kroger, police said.

Officer Nick Eastham reported that Brock then backed up and drove through the yard, nearly driving off the concrete retaining wall at the south edge of the Kroger property.

Initially taken to Putnam County Hospital for blood work, Brock was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Meanwhile, in another recent incident, a teenage Kentucky resident was pulled over for speeding but will be summoned into court on a charge of possession of marijuana.

* At 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, Dallas Bell, 19, was stopped on Anderson Street by Reserve Officer Billy Wallace and found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana, police said.

One recent traffic citation was issued by city officers.

* At 10:09 a.m. Tuesday, Slater Steins, 23, Indianapolis, was ticketed for speeding by Officer Nick Eastham.

Stopped on Fillmore Road, Steins was cited for 52 mph in a 30-mph zone.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County sheriff's deputies responded to a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

* At 5:34 p.m. Wednesday, Harold R. Brankey, 45, Brazil, was southbound on Manhattan Road near County Road 650 South in a 1987 Toyota Supra. He told Deputy Riley Houghton he lost control in a corner and overcorrected.

The vehicle spun 180 degrees as it crossed into the northbound lane and into the path of Chris E. Alexander, 37, Reelsville, northbound in a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche.

Alexander said he saw Brankey lose control but could not avoid colliding with the rear of the other vehicle.

Brankey's vehicle came to rest facing east, just off the road. Alexander's vehicle was facing west.

Brankey was cited for driving without financial responsibility and for driving left of center.

Neither driver was injured.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000. Both vehicles were towed.

* At 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, Jarrod A. Brown, 40, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 275 South in a 2009 Chevrolet Trail Blazer when he noticed a large tree across the roadway.

Brown told Capt. Tom Helmer he applied his brakes but couldn't stop on wet gravel.

The windshield and top of the vehicle took the brunt of impact with the fallen tree.

Madison Township Fire Department also responded and removed the tree from the road.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000. Brown was able to drive his SUV from the scene.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to three dispatches and two lift assists.

* At 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 446 Anderson St. GFD found nothing, reset the alarm and returned to station at 10:20 p.m.

* At 2:25 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a pull-station fire alarm at 800 S. Locust St. GFD found nothing upon arrival and returned to station at 2:34 a.m.

* At 3:56 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 107 W. Hanna St. The alarm was determined to have been set off due to cooking. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 4:05 p.m.
