Early voting under way for Indiana primary

Sunday, April 10, 2016

Early voting is now open to Hoosiers for the primary election. Early in-person voting continues through May 2 at noon.

Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson says casting your ballot to avoid the rush is easy.

"Registered voters can go to their county clerk's office with a valid, government-issued photo ID to vote early," Lawson said. "Voters do not need a reason to vote early, simply show up and cast your ballot."

In Putnam County, early in-person voting is available on the second floor of the Putnam County Courthouse during regular courthouse hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Before heading to the polls, Hoosier voters can go to www.indianavoters.comor use the Indiana Voters app on their smart phone to look up which candidates will be on their ballot. Voters enter their county of residence, name and date of birth.

'Who's On Your Ballot?' will list the offices, candidates' names and party just as it will be listed on Election Day.

The only county-wide election contested locally is for District 3 Putnam County Commissioner, which matches challenger Mike Clark and incumbent Don Walton.

Registered voters can also vote absentee by mail.

Voter registration is now closed for the May 3 primary, but citizens can still get registered for the Nov. 8 general election at IndianaVoters.com or by using the Indiana Voters app.
