North Putnam to present 'Wizard of Oz' Friday and Saturday

The North Putnam High School Thespian Troupe will be staging the timeless musical "The Wizard of Oz" this Friday and Saturday, April 22-23.

Starring in the North Putnam High School production of "The Wizard of Oz" are (from left) Nicole Moore The Scarecrow, Alex Kelsey as the Tin Man, Sarah Asher as Dorothy and Jakob Spangler as The Cowardly Lion. The classic musical will be staged Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at NPHS.

Performances begin at 7 p.m. with tickets priced at $5.

The classic tale begins when a tornado rips through Kansas and, Dorothy (Sarah Asher) and her dog, Toto (Elvis), are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz.

There they are instructed by Glinda the Good Witch of the North (Laurel MacGregor) to follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard (Cameron Wunderlich).

While en route they meet a Scarecrow (Nicole Moore) who needs a brain, a Tin Man (Alex Kelsey) missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion (Jakob Spangler) who wants courage.

The wizard asks the group to bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West (Emily Stine) to earn his help.

They are joined on the stage by Audrey Barger, Brandon Wunderlich, Jenna Spangler, Morganne Stinemetz, Haley Wilson, Rachel Hamilton, Kayla Cohen, Gabby Ardito, Sonora Erwin, Malea Englert, Destiny Mason, Grace Timm and Nicole Huffman.

The stage crew is comprised of Erin McDaniel, Nick Young, Alexandra Gross, Darion Brown and Cody Asher.

The orchestra is directed by Alexander Keim with Morgan Asher on piano.

Orchestra members include Mason Allen, Alisha Bell, Maddie Delattre, Brandon Burges, Taylor Dixon, Jerick Montgomery, Kameryn Thornberg, Annie Peabody, David Flannelly, Zachary Koll, Zoe Hagymasi, Alexi Sweet, Kimberly Kippert and Abigail Skillern.

The production team includes Dustin Bond as director, Linda Gjesvold as set designer, Sarah Bond as choreographer, Alexander Keim as vocal director, Craig Armitage as tech director and Jessica Wright as thespian sponsor.
