Area 30 students attend HOSA Leadership Conference

Thirty-one students from Area 30 Career Center recently took part in the Indiana State Leadership conference for Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA).

Students from Health Careers, CNA (Nursing) and Emergency Medical Tech classes spent two nights and three days at the Sheraton Hotel at Keystone at the Crossing in Indianapolis. The students attended health science symposiums and competed with more than 1,100 students from other career centers throughout Indiana.

Competitive event areas included Creative Problem Solving, Job Seeking Skills, Career Health Display, Extemporaneous Health Poster, Prepared Speaking, Medical Reading, EMT and Home Health Aid Skills.

They also competed by taking knowledge tests on Nutrition, Growth and Development, Pathophysiology, Medical Terminology, Behavioral Health, Medical Spelling, Medical Math, and Transcultural Health Care.

The following Area 30 students earned medals and top-10 finishes:

-- Medical Reading Top 10 finisher: Morgan Amis, first-place medal winner (GHS).

-- Extemporaneous Health Poster Top 10 finisher: Mary Bousman, third-place medal winner (GHS).

-- Medical Math Top 10 finisher: Lindsey Bridgewater (GHS).

-- Behavioral Health Top 10 finisher: Emma Griffith (SPHS).

-- Growth and Development Top 10 finisher: Anighis Cuttriss (EHS).

-- Nutrition Top 10 finisher: Madison Fauvergue (GHS).

-- Job Seeking Skills Top 10 finisher: Abigail Stayte (SPHS).

-- Prepared Speaking Top 10 finisher: Luke Alan Jobes (EHS).

-- Creative Problem Solving Top 10 finishers: Morgan Miley (CHS), Cheyenne Clark (CHS), Cori Shillings (GHS).
