City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to 16 dispatches, one medical assist and one lift assist.

* At 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD assisted the Roachdale Fire Department in the extinguishment of a structure fire (barn) at 11448 N. County Road 25 West.

* At 3:34 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to smoking at 509 S. Locust St.

* At 3:46 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a motor-vehicle accident resulting in injury on U.S. 231 South near the Putnam County Hospital. GFD provided manpower in the form of fluid and glass cleanup.

* At 4:04 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD performed an odor investigation at 103 E. Poplar St. Though reports of gas were received, nothing was found upon arrival.

* At 4:52 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 109 W. Hanna St.

* At 10:16 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a vehicle fire at 800 S. Locust St. Upon arrival, GFD discovered the fire had already burned itself out and removed the vehicle from the roadway, checking for hotspots along the way.

* At 6:01 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a motor-vehicle accident at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and U.S. 231 South. A car had rear-ended a semi-trailer. GFD assisted in the cleanup of fluid and glass from the roadway.

* At 4:31 a.m. on Friday, GFD assisted the Cloverdale Fire Department in the extinguishment of a structure fire (pole barn) at 11538 U.S. 231 North.

* At 8:23 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a call reporting smoke entering a residence at 80 South St. Burnt food and a hose resting on the building's furnace were cited as the problem. GFD ventilated the residence and returned to station at 8:58 p.m.

* At 8:28 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 303 S. Locust St. The alarm was determined to have been unnecessarily set off by a candle. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 8:42 p.m.

* At 6:51 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. The fire alarm was determined to have been unnecessarily set off due to steam. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 7:04 p.m.

* 9:32 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 916 S. College Ave. GFD was unable to determine the cause of the alarm as nothing of concern was found. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 9:56 p.m.

* At 12:48 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm that had been accidently tripped by an extinguisher alarm at 807 S. College Ave. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 12:57 a.m.

* At 12:48 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to another fire alarm at 807 S. College Ave. A pull station was determined to have caused the alarm. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 12:57 a.m.

* At 6:33 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 415 Anderson St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 6:43 a.m.

* At 7:31 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm that had been unnecessarily set off by steam at 106 S. Spring St. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 7:42 a.m.
