Collins cards best-ever PGA finish
Chad Collins of Cloverdale recorded his career-best finish on the PGA Tour on Sunday, finishing third in the PGA Valero Open at San Antonio, Texas.
Collins, 37, won $422,000 for his third-place finish and birdied four of the last five holes to finalize his spot in the top three.
After a disastrous first day in which he shot a 73, Collins bounced back strong over the final three rounds to shoot 69-67-69 for a total of 278. He finished one stroke behind runnerup Patrick Reed and two behind champion Charley Hoffman.
Five golfers tied for fourth place behind Collins.
After spending the last couple of months getting in position to win his fourth PGA Tour event -- only to see his chances wash away at various points only to lose them -- Hoffman finally sealed the deal.
The event was the 14th of the 2015-16 season for Collins, who had made the cut after two rounds only four times in his previous 13 outings.
Collins had earned $47,830 this season and now has career PGA earnings of just a shade under $3 million.
