UPDATE: Kroger reopen after overnight fire

Thursday, April 28, 2016
A shopping cart and sign at the front entrance of the Greencastle Kroger store bear the news of the store's temporary closure Thursday morning. The business had reopened by 9 a.m.

Would-be shoppers at the Greencastle Kroger store Thursday morning were greeted with the news that the store is temporarily closed.

Shopping carts blocked the two main front entrances, one bearing a sign that read, "Closed due to small fire. Will reopen ASAP."

The store had reopened as of 9 a.m.

Greencastle firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 2:55 a.m.

Upon arrival, fire crews discovered there had been a small electrical fire behind the ice cooler. Employees had already put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher.

GFD left the scene after an investigation.

Signs of the problem were limited inside the store after it opened, except for workers cleaning in the area of the ice freezer.
