Putnamville troopers to participate in 'Click It or Ticket' effort

Monday, May 2, 2016

PUTNAMVILLE -- Indiana State Police troopers from the Putnamville Post will join officers from more than 250 state and local agencies in Indiana in the federally funded Click It or Ticket campaign.

The May 6-30 campaign also includes the Memorial Day holiday weekend and the federally funded Combined Accident Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E.) overtime project.

During the period, Putnamville troopers will be raising awareness to the benefits of occupant restraints through education and enforcement, and utilizing high-visibility patrols and sobriety checkpoints to help ensure the safest environment for all motorists on Indiana roadways.

According to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, in 2015, there were 818 fatalities on Indiana roadways with 33 percent of those fatalities being unrestrained.

"While our primary focus will be on seatbelt and child-restraint enforcement, we will also be looking for dangerous and impaired driving. We ask that motorists make the right choice to buckle-up and drive safe and sober," ISP Lt. Dan Jones, commander of the Putnamville District, said.

The Indiana State Police reminds motorists to:

-- Wear seatbelts.

-- Utilize child-restraint devices.

-- Use a designated driver or other transportation if you plan to drink.

-- Have your driver's license and registration ready at sobriety checkpoints. If sober, it should only take a couple of minutes to pass through.

To report dangerous and/or impaired driving, dial 911.
