Percussion at Peeler offers art and music immersion Wednesday night

Wednesday, May 4, 2016

The DePauw Percussion Ensemble, directed by Bonnie Whiting, will present a program of contemporary solo and chamber works for percussion on Wednesday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Richard E. Peeler Art Center on the DePauw University campus.

The performance is presented in conjunction with the Department of Art and Art History's annual Senior Art Exhibit and with StereoType: New directions in typography, a groundbreaking exhibition exploring the intersections of technology and design, currently on display in The Galleries at Peeler.

Conceived as a creative alternative to traditional concert settings, Percussion at Peeler has become a highlight of the annual performance calendar. This year's event, inspired by John Cage's "Musicircus," will be presented "promenade" style with audience members encouraged to walk through both gallery spaces, simultaneously taking in the art and music.

The program features percussion and spoken-word performances presented within a visual environment including animation, interactivity and kinetic movement, combined with graffiti and traditional components of typography.

The public is invited to attend this free, family-friendly event for all ages and to join the artists for a reception following their performance.
