Eleanor Ruth (Hester) McGaughey, 87, of Russellville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 5, 2016.

Born on April 4, 1929, she was the oldest daughter of Edward Vansant (Santy) and Thelma Rose Evans Hester.

She graduated from Russellville High School in 1947 and lived in Russellville her entire life.

She married Clay McGaughey on Sept. 14, 1947. To this union was born nine sons and seven daughters, Ray and Linda, Lake Alfred, Fla., Nancy, Russellville, Patty and Dan Butler, Rockville, Ted and Vonda, Russellville, Deanna Carrington, Russellville, Dan and Betty Fresno, Calif., Loretta Patterson, Seymour, Jim, Russellville, Lynette and Kevin Hedgepath, Parkersburg, W.Va., Rita and Kurt Wacker, McCordsville; Jerry and Page, Darlington, David and Tammy, Waveland, Michael and Holle, Indianapolis, Doug Russellville, and Cary and Jen, Russellville; and son-in-law Kennard Goff.

Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family members.

In addition to being a homemaker, she worked for Toy and Gift Companies from 1958 to 2004 in various capacities.

She was a den mother of Cub Scout; member of Russellville O.E.S., Pythian Sisters; member of the Russellville Community Church for more than 70 years where she served as an elder, deacon and president of the CWO. She spent many hours volunteering for the church food pantry, and other church functions, and for the Russellville Community Center.

She is also survived by a brother, James and Marilyn Hester, Indianapolis; brother-in-law Dale Luper, Lebanon; 31 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Joan Goff, son-in-law Kevin Carrington, sisters Lenna (Glenn) Jones; Eileen (James) Snoddy; Sharon Luper and Martha McKenzie

Visitation will be on Monday, May 9 at the Russellville Community Church from 3-7 p.m. An Eastern Star service will be at 7 p.m.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at the church on Tuesday, May 10 at 10 a.m. officiated by Pastor Kathi Elliott.

Burial will be at the Russellville Hebron Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Russellville Community Center or Russellville Community Church.
