Drug Take Back success again

Thursday, May 5, 2016

To the Editor:

I wanted everyone to know that despite the weather this past Saturday we had a good turnout at the Drug Take Back Day.

Once again I would like to thank the Greencastle School Corporation and Danny Green who assisted me on Saturday for the use of their facilities. It is partnerships like this that make our community a better and safer place to live.

We collected approximately 245 pounds altogether in the four-hour time period. Since our involvement with the Drug Take Back Day (2011) event the Greencastle Police Department has removed approximately 2,931.5 pounds of expired, unused or unwanted medications from our community.

Along with that we continue to receive medications through our CVS Pharmacy drug box which is located in our lobby at the Police Department.

Since that program started last January 2015 we have collected 396.5 pounds of medication in about 1.5 years. The Greencastle Police Department continues to fight the war on prescription drugs here in our community and with the support of the community we will continue to battle this never-ending fight.
