A Putnam County native is among the 2016 initiates of Phi Beta Kappa at DePauw University.

ANGELA S. HACKER of Cloverdale was initiated into the Indiana Alpha Chapter, which was chartered at DePauw in 1889.

Phi Beta Kappa, founded in 1776, is the oldest and most respected honorary society in the United States.


ALISON A. HOWARD, a DePauw University senior, from Greencastle, was one of two student awarded the Don Campbell Award. The Don Campbell Award is for the senior man and woman who contributed most toward theater while at DePauw, selected by members of Duzer Du, the theatre honorary.

Founded in 1837, DePauw University in Greencastle is a selective, coeducational, residential, liberal arts university with nationally recognized programs and faculty members in its College of Liberal Arts and School of Music.


Trine University recognized more than 250 students at its annual honors program on April 29.

Students received honors for academic achievement, membership in national honor societies and leadership in their academic field.

Among the students recognized were:

KATHERINE HORN of Greencastle, who was honored for Summa Cum Laude.

ROBERT PHILLIPS of Greencastle, who was honored for Magna Cum Laude.

DUSTIN SUTHERLIN of Fillmore, who was honored for Cum Laude.
