Forty-four Area 30 Career Center students made their county proud when they returned home from the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and Skills USA competitions with top places.

Most of these students were future CNAs, EMTs and other health professionals who competed in the Indiana State Leadership Conference for HOSA against 1,100 students from other Indiana career centers.

The competition included events such as "Creative Problem Solving" and "Medical Spelling" and knowledge tests on nutrition, transcultural health care and other topics.

Bringing home a first-place medal in "Medical Reading" was Morgan Amis from Greencastle High School. Mary Bousman, also from GHS, took the third-place medal in "Extemporaneous Health Poster."

Nine other students finished in the top 10 of their respective field: Lindsey Bridgewater (GHS, "Medical Math"); Emma Griffith (South Putnam High School, "Behavioral Health"); Anighis Cuttriss (Eminence High School, "Growth and Development"); Madison Fauvergue (GHS, "Nutrition"); Abigail Stayte (SPHS, "Job Seeking Skills"); Luke Alan Jobes (EHS, "Prepared Speaking"); and Morgan Miley (Cloverdale High School), Cheyenne Clark (CHS) and Cori Shillings (GHS) for "Creative Problem Solving."

Students who competed in the Skills USA competition took third or better.

Placing first in the Quiz Bowl was a team composed of Cory O'Neal (GHS), Noah Barger (GHS), Victoria Szalay (CHS), Javier Jiminez (GHS) and Jessica Copeland (North Putnam High School). Placing first in "Mobile Robotics" were Dakota Hacker (GHS) and Sarah Danner (SPHS).

A second-place posting was taken by Collin Grounds (CHS, "Technical Computer Applications").

Third places were won by Noah Barger ("Information Technology Repair"); Joe Masters (SPHS, "Motorcycle Repair"); Chase Ruble (NPHS, "Criminal Justice"); and Justin Hartman and Dalton Evans (both from GHS) in "3-D Animation."
