Dawn Puckett retiring from GCSC superintendent post
Just one year after her husband retired as a South Putnam administrator, Greencastle Community School Corporation (GCSC) Superintendent Dawn Puckett has announced her retirement.
Puckett sent out an email memo to all GCSC staff Tuesday, informing them of her decision, and followed up with the same note to city officials, including Greencastle Mayor Bill Dory.
In her memo, Puckett announced that she will be retiring as school superintendent at the end of July.
"With only six more student days remaining in the school year, celebrations of the successes for this year have begun," she said in beginning the correspondence. "As a team and family, GCSC has much to celebrate, and I am so proud of the work we have all done this year.
"I am also proud to say that I have been a Greencastle Tiger Cub for 29 of my 36 years in education. As I approach the end of this school year, I have decided that it is now time to move on to another chapter of my life. I will be retiring as superintendent at the end of July. "
Puckett said that she knows the GCSC "is in good hands" as she prepares to depart.
"The administration, the staff and the school board of GCSC," she praised, "are all solid in their resolve for providing excellent schools and a workplace that is rooted in team and family.
"Let's finish the rest of the school year strong with hope and positive planning for all the challenges and rewards that next year will bring under new leadership.
"Thank you for your dedication and hard work this year," she concluded. "It's been a joy."
Dawn Puckett was named GCSC Superintendent on March 11, 2013 after a brief stint as interim superintendent following the departure of Superintendent Lori Richmond.
The Greencastle superintendent's husband, Kieth Puckett, retired from the South Putnam School Corporation as middle school/high school principal last year with a similar announcement last May 27.
