North Putnam announces summer food program

North Putnam Community Schools recently announced plans to participate in the state's Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).

Through SFSP, free meals will be made available to all children under the age of 18 and to persons over the age of 18 who are enrolled in a state-approved educational program for the mentally ill or physically disabled.

Free meals will be provided to all children without charge while consisting of the same products for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. There will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Meals will be provided on a first-come-first-serve basis during at least one summer sesssion at the sites listed below:

* North Putnam Middle School: 8869 N. County Road 250 E. (Open to public)

June (May 31 through July 1) -- Breakfast 8-9 a.m.; Lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

July (July 11 through July 22) -- Breakfast 8-9 a.m.; Lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

August (Aug. 1 through Aug. 4) -- Breakfast 8-9 a.m.; Lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

* Roachdale Elementary School: 305 S. Indiana St. (Open to public)

June (May 31 through July 1) -- Breakfast 8-9 a.m.; Lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

July (July 11 through July 22) -- Breakfast 8-9 a.m.; Lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

* Van Bibber Lake: 4425 W. County Road 450 N. (Open to enrolled participants only)

June (May 31 through July 1) -- Lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

July (July 11 through July 29) -- Lunch 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.

* Heritage Lake: 1000 Club House (Open to enrolled participants only)

June (June 13 through June 17) -- Lunch 12-1 p.m.; Snack time 2:30-3:30 p.m.

In accordance with Federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its agencies, offices, employees and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA.

Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (i.e. Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.), should contact the agency (whether state or local) where they applied for benefits.

Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact the USDA through the Federal Relay Service at 800-877-8339. Additional program information may be made available in languages other than English.
