Garry M. Dean

Garry M. Dean, 61, of Jasonville, passed away at 10:12 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2016 in Sullivan County Community Hospital, Sullivan.

He was born Feb. 9, 1955 in Sullivan to Melvin C. Dean and Elsie L. (Mattox) Dean.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Y. (Wagner) Dean of Jasonville, whom he married on April 9, 2000; stepson, Charles "Buzz" Hutcheson and Audrey of Cloverdale; stepdaughter, Corinne Hutcheson of Coalmont; father, Melvin C. Dean of Coalmont; sister and brother-in-law, Carole and Jim Clark of Brownsburg; nephews Brent and Sherry Clark, Brian and Jennifer Clark; aunts Wanda Rose "Peg" Dean of Terre Haute, Mary Ann and Harold Machonkin of Florida; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Dean, on Jan. 17, 2011, and twin sister Sherrie M. Dean on Sept. 10, 2012.

Garry was a 1973 Shakamak High School graduate. He also graduated from Indiana State University with a bachelor's degree in health and safety.

He was a correctional officer at Putnamville Correctional Facility for more than 20 years, and had served as a firearms safety trainer.

He was a lifetime member of the NRA.

Garry liked anything to do with the outdoors and guns. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and mowing the yard.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 S. Meridian St., Jasonville.

Visitation is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will immediately follow visitation at 4 p.m. Friday, May 27 at Cox Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Peavey Cemetery in Howesville.
