Eldon H. Boswell, 94, of Greencastle, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016.

Born June 3, 1921 in Parke County to Perry and Nicy (Wells) Boswell and was a 1940 graduate of Greencastle High School.

After returning home from the Navy, having served as a gunner's mate in World War II, he went to work for his father for several years as a master carpenter.

He also worked with Paul Black, Harry Black, Williams-Beck-Hess and Joe Hess, retiring in 1986.

After retirement he went to work for the Walden Inn for 13 years as a mechanical engineer and occasional tour bus guide.

Eldon was a member of the Elks Lodge, having served as exalted ruler for two terms and receiving Elk of the Year.

He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Carpenters Union.

He made several pieces of furniture, including a bedroom suite in memory of Karen, Matt O'Neill's wife. He made seven bedroom suites total, one for each of his children. Some furniture he made for Walden Inn is on display at the Putnam County Museum.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Dellen, who he married in 1946, the daughter of Claude and Katie (Heavin) Dellen of Stilesville. They have four children, Steve (Margee Gray), Larry (Peggy Cash), David (Marcia Foxx), and Debra Crowley; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Russell Boswell and son-in-law Jim Crowley.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 26 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with an Elks Memorial Walk Thru at 7:30 p.m.

Private graveside services with military rites will be held.
