Police Boot Camp program set June 6-10 at Robe-Ann Park

Tuesday, May 24, 2016

The Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department and area law enforcement agencies remind all young people interested in the law enforcement field that the annual Police Boot Camp Program begins Monday, June 6 and goes through Friday, June 10 at Robe-Ann Park.

It will run from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. daily.

The Police Boot Camp Program will introduce participants to the field of law enforcement, exploring answers for the following questions:

-- What is police training like?

-- What do local police officers learn at their academy?

-- What does SWAT mean?

-- What other branches of law enforcement are there?

In search of these answers this year, the group has partnered with the Greencastle Police Department, Putnam County Prosecutor's Office, Indiana Excise Police, Indiana State Police, Putnam County Fraternal Order of Police, Putnam County Community Corrections, and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Participants will experience a K-9 search, SWAT team drill, rescue dive demonstrations, physical fitness training, team building experiences, and participate in morning flag ceremonies.

Targeting youth entering grades 6-8, pre-registration is required and may be completed with a registration form and $10 registration fee to be dropped off at City Hall by Friday, June 3.

Registration forms are available at the Greencastle City Hall, Greencastle Aquatics Center, Greencastle Pediatric Dentistry and the Putnam County Public Library.
