Banner Graphic: Which sports do you play, and do you like any of them better than the others?

Kelsey Helterbrand hauls in a pop-up against Cascade on Monday evening in sectional softball action.

KH: Volleyball, basketball and softball. I like them all, but softball I play more because I would like to go to college and play softball. The volleyball and basketball coaches work with me well to be able to play travel softball in the summer and still make it to their open gyms. I have time for them all.

BG: What else do you like to do?

KH: I have a job at Lieber State Park working at the camp gate. I spend time with my friends when I can, and I like to spend a lot of time at home with my family. I like to spend time drawing and coloring, and just spend as much time with my family as possible. We like to watch TV together. We record "Cops" and "Jail" and we like to watch them together. They are good shows to watch to see the kinds of things you need to avoid to stay out of those situations. We have two indoor cats and one outdoor dog.

BG: What have sports taught you that you can use in other parts of your life?

KH: Sports have taught me leadership and how to organize my time equally between my friends and my schoolwork.

BG: How many of your teammates play with you on all three of the sports that you play?

KH: I am with Lauren Meek on all three of my high school sports teams. There are some who play two of the three, but she's the only other one who does all three. Lauren is one of my closest friends. We go back a long way playing travel ball together.

BG: What is your favorite position in softball?

KH: I like being the catcher, and I would like to play catcher in college. I get to be involved in all of the players every inning, and be able to control the field and see the whole field.

BG: What are your goals for your senior year for your sports teams?

KH: In volleyball, my goals are to end with a winning record. We are losing lots of seniors, and I'm just hoping that we stick together as a team and we don't lose focus on our goals of winning games in the conference. In basketball, my goal is to be the best defensive player possible. My offense is not as good as my defense, so that's how I can best help the team. In softball, my defense hopefully can stay as decent as it has been and hopefully my offense will be better.
