Velma Mildred Chastain

Velma Mildred Chastain, 93, of Greencastle, formerly of Roachdale, passed away at Mill Pond Health Campus on Saturday evening, May 28, 2016.

She was born on Feb. 28, 1923 to Lloyd and Amy Jones Young.

She was a member of Oak Park Baptist Church, Indianapolis, an a former member of the VFW Auxiliary in Roachdale and the Roachdale Christian Church.

She was a seamstress and had and Alteration and Yarn Shop in Roachdale for several years. She also worked in the sewing room at General Motors Truck & Body in Indianapolis.

She married Cleo D. Chastain in Indianapolis on Nov. 18, 1942, and was later divorced.

She is survived by one son, Robert (Judy) Chastain of Ladoga; daughters K. Sue Chastain of Waveland and Amy J. (Louie R.) Richards of Roachdale, 11 grandchildren[ 16 great-grandchildren; siblings Ray Young of Eubank, Ky., George Young of Eubank, Ky., Glenna Carter and Melba Crane of Indianapolis, and Rosetta Hall of Somerville, S.C.

She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen R. Chastain, and six brothers.

Funeral services are planned for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 at Servies and Morgan Funeral Home, Roachdale. Visitation will be from 4-7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Entombment will be at Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis at 10 a.m. Thursday. Pastor Glen McFarland will officiate.
