Ever wonder about the up-and-down beats, the occasional flutterings and the complex tempos of the human heart?

Putnam County Hospital and Franciscan St. Francis Health are offering a free class focused on atrial fibrillation (A-Fib), a condition affecting more than 2.6 million Americans and the cause of up to 20 percent of strokes.

This "Ask the Doctors" seminar begins at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 6, in the third-floor classrooms at Putnam County Hospital, 1542 Bloomington St., Greencastle. Refreshments will be served at 6 p.m.

Renowned innovators in the treatment of atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) cardiologist, John W. Moore III, MD, and cardiovascular surgeon, Andrew R. Barksdale, MD, specialize in the electrical activity of the heart and will discuss approaches to diagnosis and new ground-breaking treatment options that can eliminate atrial fibrillation. Drs. Moore and Barksdale practice at Franciscan St. Francis Health.

Attendance is free, but registration is required by June 3 because seating is limited. To register, person should call 655-2620.

In late 2015, Putnam County Hospital recently formed a partnership with Franciscan St. Francis Health. This arrangement provides a full-time cardiology clinic and outstanding cardiac support for patients in that area.
