June First Friday to feature music by MacDaddy's

Music, food and fun on Franklin Street are on the menu for the June 3 First Friday event in downtown Greencastle.

Everyone is invited to bring lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of fun and entertainment with friends and family on the square.

There is always featured entertainment on the Franklin Street stage on First Friday, beginning at 7 p.m. June's featured band will be the MacDaddy's, frequent performers at The Swizzle Stick and the annual Greencastle Summer Music Festival.

As usual, Almost Home/Swizzle Stick will grill out food and offers an outdoor beer garden.

The Swizzle Stick will have the local goup War Radio performing inside, beginning at 9 p.m. to finish off the evening.

Other First Friday features are scheduled to include:

-- Painting on the Square with Holly Sims: Come and paint a picture with direction from Greencastle native Sims. To reserve an easel, contact almosthomerestaurant@gmail.com. Cost is $25. Please note the easel space is limited.

-- DePauw School of Music: in Partnership with the American Harp Society, the DePauw School of Music will have visiting international harpists performing from 6-7 p.m. on the Franklin Street stage prior to their performance on Harp Day, Sunday, June 5.

-- 4-H Alpaca Club: Group will be introducing this new-to-Putnam County 4-H Club with two or three Alpacas and some demonstrations. They will also have Alpaca dryer balls for sale, which are handmade by 4-H members with 100 percent felted alpaca fiber.

-- Greencastle Parents Football Club: Group is having a pizza sale fundraiser to help fund the GHS football program. Money raised will go toward practice equipment, helmets, pads, practice packs and training for coaching staff. Orders will be taken for the following pizzas: cheese, sausage, pepperoni and sausage/pepperoni, which will sell for $13 each. GHS football players will assemble and deliver the pizzas on June 18.

-- Putnam County Arts Council: Second annual blank canvas event set for 6-8 p.m. at 2 W. Washington St. Featuring works by Putnam County artists, it is an opportunity for community members to share why the arts are personally meaningful and an invitation to contribute to a vision for a thriving arts presence. Community members will soon see a pop-up window display in 2 W. Washington St. In addition to the live music and light refreshments that evening, the Greencastle Arts Council will also unveil a creative competition inviting local artists to propose imaginative designs for a Bicentennial map of Putnam County's public art and arts venues. Prizes totaling more than $600 will be awarded to the top three concepts for the arts map.

-- Greencastle Rotary Club: Rotary will be selling cold soda drinks and water during the evening.

-- Southern Whimsy Boutique: A new clothing boutique in the community is committed to providing clothing "that allows women to live with style and grace." To see some of Southern Whimsy's clothing, go to the Southern Whimsy Boutique Facebook page.

--- Bear Threads: Business offers boutique clothing and handcrafted accessories and must-haves for all ages.

-- Younique Cosmetics: Cinder Hayden will have a booth to offer products and services.

-- Conspire: Contemporary Craft: Business will be on the square with a collection of unique handmade art from around the Midwest, such as a sample of Teehaus soaps. Residents can also visit the shop at 14 S. Indiana St., which will be open until 9 p.m.

-- Melissa Turner Photography: Specializes in on-site, natural light, family photos. All sessions are a minimum of one hour and client will receive an edited CD with printing rights. -- Main Street Greencastle: Selling the 1924 posters for $10, while having local historic postcards available as well.
