CATARACT FALLS -- A 32-year-old Clay County woman was pronounced dead Monday after she did not resurface while swimming at the Cataract Falls.

Witnesses say the victim, Autumn McCreery, of Brazil, was swimming when she disappeared beneath the surface.

The area has multiple signs prohibiting swimming where the incident took place, Indiana Department of Natural Resources officials said.

A friend of McCreery reportedly called 911 at 1:39 p.m. Indiana Conservation Divers responded to the scene and recovered the victim at 2:43 p.m.

CPR was administered on site without success.

Indiana Conservation Officers are conducting an investigation into the incident but no foul play is suspected at this time. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.

Based on witness statements from the victim's friends, DNR officials said it appears alcohol may have been a contributing factor to the victim's condition.

Responding agencies included the Owen County Sheriff's Department, Owen County Water Rescue, Cloverdale Fire Department and Owen County Ambulance Service.
