'Blank Canvas' event set June 3

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

The Greencastle Arts Council will host its second annual "Blank Canvas" event on Friday, June 3 at 2 W. Washington St.

The 6-8 p.m. event, featuring works by Putnam County artists, is an opportunity for community members to share why the arts are personally meaningful, and an invitation to contribute to a vision for a thriving arts presence. Additionally, this creative and interactive evening will celebrate and capture the community's vision of public art.

Community members will soon see a pop-up window display in 2 W. Washington St.

In addition to live music by Julianna Goldsmith and Istvan Csicery-Ronay, a reading by Joe Heithaus and light refreshments, the Greencastle Arts Council will also unveil a creative competition inviting local artists to propose imaginative designs for a bicentennial map of Putnam County's public art and arts venues.

Prizes totaling more than $600 will be awarded to the top three concepts for the arts map.

The Greencastle Arts Council, an emerging non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts in Putnam County, hopes that feedback from the community will help shape the future activities and initiatives of the council. Local artists in all disciplines are invited to download and complete an Artist Information Form that will be used to compile an Arts Directory, downloadable at www.greencastleartscouncil.org.

Artists may bring the form to the event or mail it to the Greencastle Arts Council, P.O. Box 631, Greencastle, IN 46135.

A brief annual meeting of the Arts Council will take place at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
