District 44 candidate Fidler to host event for Gregg Saturday

Democrat candidate for Indiana governor John Gregg will make his second campaign appearance in Putnam County this spring when Kim Fidler, the Democrat candidate for the District 44 seat in the Indiana House of Representatives, hosts a meet and greet for him Saturday, June 11.

The event is scheduled for 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Putnam Inn, 400 N. Jackson St., Greencastle.

Gregg is a former president of Vincennes University and ex-speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives.

A lifelong resident of Sandborn in rural Knox County, Gregg has spent more than 30 years in private business and public life.

He was elected in 1986 to represent Southwest Indiana and served in the Indiana House for 10 years before being elected speaker of the House in 1996. He served six years as speaker.

Gregg re-entered the political arena in 2012 as the Democrat nominee for governor, coming up just short of victory in the closest race for that office in 50 years.

In May 2015, he announced plans to seek the governorship again in the 2016 Indiana General Election.

A Greencastle resident, Fidler taught Spanish at South Putnam High School Spanish for 16 years, and has been a UniServ director for the Indiana State Teachers Association for the past 10 years.

Her campaign to unseat incumbent Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) recently picked up an endorsement from the Indiana state AFL-CIO, which is also endorsing Gregg for governor.
