The Putnam County Museum Board of Directors has announced the selection of Lisa Mock as the museum's new executive director.

Having served as assistant to previous director, Kit Newkirk, Mock's familiarity with the museum and the community will allow for a seamless transition, museum officials noted.

With a degree in history and classical art, and having grown up around historical artifacts in her grandparents' antique shop, Mock has great respect for days gone by.

She says during high school, she dreamed of some day working in a museum. Her attention to detail will assure that museum collections will be well cared for.

Having called Putnam County her home for the past 25 years, Director Mock is well acquainted with the small towns and storylines that make our communities so vibrant.

"Working with Kit Newkirk was the absolutely best job of my life," she said. "And, I look forward to continuing that legacy and making a difference through the museum."

Mock will work to expand both the volunteer base and the use of interns.

"I believe everyone has a story to tell," she said. "We will seek out and record those stories for posterity.

"We are the county's museum," she added. "We will work every day to make people from throughout the county and from all walks of life feel valued."
