Hollis Smith Shepherd, 76, Greencastle, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016.

Hollis was born May 11, 1940 in Lansing, N.C., the son of Everett and Ethel Shepherd.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years Mitzi and five children, three from a previous marriage, Hollis J. Shepherd, Daniel Shepherd and Joseph Shepherd, and two from his marriage to Mitzi, Ericka Bell and Sean Shepherd. He is also survived by four siblings, Rosella Young, Ardella Melvin, Arvis Shepherd, and Leon Shepherd, as well as 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Hollis led an interesting life. He lived in Phoenix, Ariz., where he worked for Piccadilly Cafeteria as head baker. Eventually he met Mitzi who started working for Piccadilly as well.

They traveled the states helping to open a number of new cafeterias before returning to Greencastle, where he worked for Putnam County schools and Putnam County Hospital. He ministered for the Church of God and also ministered for hospice.

Hollis loved to write poetry, collect Hot Wheel cars and meet new people, which was a perfect fit for his last job as a Walmart greeter, where he worked until he was 75.

Most importantly he walked with the Lord and was a loving husband and father who will be deeply missed. He is now with our Heavenly Father where he rests in peace.
