Mary Allison Children's Trust Board member Mike Goss (left) confers with Rob York of York Automotive and board members Matt Headley, Darren Hughes and President Jim Jackson in preparation for the July 8 Mary Allison Golf Outing. The golfer who hits a hole in one on the assigned hole at the event will win a car from York Automotive. The annual tourney will be played at Clover Meadows Golf Course.

When Mary Allison developed the Greencastle Orphans Home on 150 acres of land just west of the city in 1901, she likely didn't realize how great of a legacy she was creating.

On Friday, July 8 the 12th annual Mary Allison Golf Outing at Clover Meadows Golf Course in Cloverdale will raise funds for the Mary Allison Children's Trust that is the legacy of the original orphanage.

The trust was developed when the home was closed in the 1960s.

Each year every Putnam County elementary school is awarded $1,000 from the fund -- to be used for medical or healthcare issues for students when all other resources are exhausted.

At least 10 children from each of the county's elementary schools receive financial aid each year from the trust. Monies are unrestricted, meaning school officials can use them for any purpose as long as it benefits the students.

The board members also have a discretionary fund of $500 per person -- to be used to assist students as they see a need arise for all grades.

Registration for the golf outing begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by a lunch at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

The cost of the outing is $200 per team and $50 for hole sponsors.

Lunch is $10.

Prizes given will include: $200 for first place; $100 for second place; and $50 for third place. Door prizes will also be given and mulligans will be available for purchase at a cost of $10.

The public is invited to participate in the annual event.

Trust sponsors for the golf outing include: Walmart Distribution Center, Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, Tri-County Bank and Trust, Wabash Capital, Duke Energy and the Greencastle Rotary Club.

Anyone who hits a hole-in-one at the designated hole will win a new automobile from York Automotive.

Forms and fees are due by Tuesday, July 5 and can be mailed to the Mary Allison Children's Trust, P.O. Box 369, Greencastle 46135.
