The Greencastle Community School Corporation Board of Trustees Monday night appointed Bryce Rector as Greencastle High School varsity boys' basketball coach and math teacher.

Rector has been selected to lead the GHS Tiger Cubs boys' basketball program as head coach beginning with the 2016-17 season.

Rector is leaving Avon High School where he served as a math teacher and assistant coach.

He succeeds Troy Greenlee, who left GHS to accept an administrative role at White River Valley High School earlier this spring.

Rector played high school basketball and baseball at Muncie Burris. He later served as a varsity assistant basketball coach at Muncie Burris before taking over as freshman coach and varsity assistant at Blue River Valley in 2013-14. Rector has been the JV coach and a varsity assistant at Avon High School since 2014.

Along with coaching basketball, he was also was the varsity assistant baseball coach at Muncie Burris and served as freshman baseball coach at Avon.

"I am incredibly thrilled and honored to be given the opportunity to be the next Greencastle boys' basketball coach," Rector said. "The community and basketball facilities that Greencastle offers are second to none in the state, which I believe are ideal for building a top-notch basketball program.

"I am excited to get to work as a member of the faculty, building up the basketball program, and becoming a part of the Greencastle community."

GHS Athletic Director Greg Hill commented, "We believe we have found a young, energetic man who is both an outstanding teacher and coach. We were looking for a candidate that could spark the program, get involved with our youth and middle school basketball programs and insist on player accountability in the classroom and on the court. Coach Rector meets those requirements and more.

"Coach Rector is committed to moving to Greencastle as soon as possible and rolling up his sleeves to get to work."

A Meet the Basketball Coach Night is scheduled for Tuesday, June 21 in the McAnally Center at 6:45 p.m. Players, parents and fans invited.

  • Response to Hills comment. If I'm not mistaking all the kids on the basketball team are honor roll students and are very passionate about the sport. They have the talent. So dont micro manage the coaches, let them coach. Need some fire on the sidelines...

  • First, Hill needs to realize he is no longer in Brownsburg. No more gaffes of playing their school song at a Greencastle pep rally. Second, Hill needs to stand by the policy he quoted to Jason Fox about no player's parents on the bench as lay coaches. Get York back in the stands. If coach wants a towel boy, get a middle schooler. Third, let coach coach. Give him some time before we rush to judgement about his abilities. After all, Greenlee had 15 years and left here no better a coach than the day he was hired. Fourth, lets get out to see the games. For the last several years, the only times during the regular season that the Mac-a-dome has been close to full are when the kids shoot for ice cream and when the cheer clinic kids are there. It is embarrassing that the visiting team brings as many fans as we have. "Fair weather fans" make me sick. Come watch what is argueably the best value out there. A $5 ticket to a high school ball game.
