Lincoln topic for Saturday museum program

Wednesday, June 22, 2016

American's memory of Abraham Lincoln and the importance of Putnam County's own Jesse Weik to those memories will be the topic of a presentation Saturday, June 25 at the Putnam County Museum, 1105 N. Jackson St., Greencastle.

Ted Jacobi

The free program by DePauw University graduate Ted Jacobi will begin at 11 a.m. It is open to the public.

Jacobi will present his research about the national memory of Abraham Lincoln and Jesse Weik's influence of that memory.

A 2010 graduate of DePauw University, Jacobi is currently pursing his MPA at New York University.

His history thesis paper focused on the college years of notable Greencastle citizen Jesse Weik. Rooted in research of Weik's college years, the paper shows that Weik played an important role in constructing an accurate portrayal of Lincoln before he became president and in preserving the research that William Herndon, Lincoln's law partner, gathered after Lincoln's death.

Interested persons may call the museum at 653-8419 for more information.
