Thursday, June 23, 2016

The Area 30 Career Center board has approved the addition of seven courses to the 2016-17 program inventory for Area 30.

Eminence High School added "Agriculture Power Structure and Technology" and Greencastle High School added "Mechanical Drafting and Design."

South Putnam High School, having just hired a business teacher, added the bulk of the new classes: "Computer Science I," "Entrepreneurship and New Ventures," "Sports and Entertainment Marketing," "Strategic Marketing" and "Computer Technology Support."

In other developments:

-- The board approved the lease for the Head Start (C.A.R.S.), Old National Trail and West Central Indiana Educational Service Center. Assistant Director Chad Nunley said there were no changes in terms or costs.

-- The board approved the 2016-17 Area 30 Career Center Budget, which increased $35,000 from last year's budget mostly due to increased insurance costs and some salaries.

In other business:

-- The board approved the resignation of Karen Heavin as pathway coordinator/language arts integrator. Her letter of resignation can be found in the Area 30 front office.

-- Three board members were absent: Dawn Puckett (Greencastle superintendent), Jeff Gibboney (Eminence superintendent) and Director Lora Busch, who is on medical leave through the summer.

-- The board approved the May Financial Report with $216,386.90 in total claims, which is a nearly $67,000 decrease from April claims.

-- Assistant Director Nunley reminded the board that the Adult Education graduation ceremony will be June 24 at 1 p.m. in the Community Room.

The next Area 30 board meeting will be July 19 at 9 a.m.
