Krista Detor

The Greencastle Summer Music Festival continues its weekly concert series Wednesday in Gobin United Methodist Church with acclaimed singer/songwriter Krista Detor.

Detor has toured internationally, playing her heartfelt songs coupled with perfected musicianship.

As always, the 7:30 p.m. concerts featuring "friends making music for friends" are free to the public, thanks to the support of donations by local individuals, businesses including the Inn at DePauw, and an endowment at the Putnam County Community Foundation.

Detor will be performing songs from her 2015 release "Barley." The album highlights Detor's skillful songwriting and her attention to musical detail. Detor describes her latest album as "a collection of songs that are spare and pared-down; the new album utilizes only one or two instruments to give ground to the work.

"The title reflects the content: close to the bone, no ornamentation, bare. I wanted to get away from large-scale production, and closer to the song itself." Detor's solo albums have topped both folk and independent singer/songwriter charts in the U.S. and UK.

The concert will be presented "in the round," which allows the audience to experience the show up close and personal. "I love intimate spaces because I can actually connect meaningfully with the audience. A really good performance, for me, involves not just myself, even in prime form, but the people I'm performing for. Up-close interaction is the best way that I've found to convey ideas, thoughts, emotions, and audience response feeds the art of the Summer Music Festival continues with singer-songwriter Krista Detor

This will not be Detor's first Greencastle appearance as concert-goers will remember her from last year's 'The Breeze Bends the Grass,' a collaborative musical theater project in which she was a member.

"We are very excited to have Krista return to share her solo work," Chris Flegal, the festival's executive director, said, "this is just another great example of the diverse musical styles we showcase here at the summer festival. We began the series with an amazing blues concert, continued with some outstanding classical performances, and now get to indulge in a folk-inspired singer/songwriter ... and it's all right here in Greencastle."

Detor has also done work for programs aired on PBS and the BBC, and been commissioned by the U.S. Department of State in New Delhi to write a musical theater piece. She has been featured in articles in MusicDish, Allmusic Guide and Rolling Stone.
