County hoopsters to play in Top 100 event

The 14th annual IBCA/IHSAA Underclass Showcase events have been set for later this month at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.

Four players from Putnam County will be competing in the event -- senior-to-be Cooper Neese and junior-to-be Jalen Moore of Cloverdale, junior-to-be Colin York of Greencastle and sophomore-to-be Allen Plunkett of South Putnam.

Greencastle boys' assistant coach Bryan Gerard will be on the coaching staff helping to administer the day's activities.

Other area players who will be competing include Jared DeHart of Indian Creek, Austin Sappingfield of West Vigo, Josh Dieball of Linton-Stockton, Jaylen Minnett of Terre Haute South, De'Avion Washington of Terre Haute South and Tanner Yeryar of Shakamak.

No Putnam County or area players or coaches are involved with the girls' event.

The 2016 Girls' Showcase will be on July 12 at 2 p.m., lasting until about 8 p.m. The 2016 Boys' Showcase will be on July 13, starting at 3 p.m. and lasting until about 9 p.m.

Staged by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association with support from the Indiana High School Athletic Association, the Underclass Showcase events are designed to give exposure to approximately 200 of the top basketball prospects (about 100 boys and about 100 girls) from across the state to colleges across the state and nation.

The showcase events are NCAA certified for 2016, meaning that college coaches from all levels (NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and NJCAA) may attend to evaluate the participants.

The showcase events are open to the public. Admission is $5 per person per day. IBCA-member coaches will be admitted at no charge by showing their IBCA membership cards.
