VBS balloon release gets responses far and wide

Participants in VBS at Cloverdale Church of Christ release 100 balloons on the first night of the event.

In recent years, a tradition has developed at the Cloverdale Church of Christ vacation Bible school.

On the first night, children and adults released 100 balloons. The balloons had a card attached with the location of the church, dates and an email address.

Each year the church receives responses from every direction of people who find the balloons.

This year, VBS organizers received word that a balloon was found in Bardstown, Ky., which is about 200 miles away. Then on the last day of VBS, another email was received that a balloon had been found in a hay field in Center, Ky., close to Cave City.

The latter response was from a man was also a member of the Church of Christ in his area. He wanted the kids to know that he had found it while baling hay.

"Sometimes it is several months before they are found, but no matter when, we always get excited that someone takes time to let us know," church secretary Marilyn Grove said.

This marked the 55th year of VBS and the church.

People of all ages are welcome not only to vacation Bible school, but to any services of the Cloverdale Church of Christ at 155 N. Main St.

The church can be reached at 795-6233.
