County Jail

Seven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Taylor Michael Thornell, 30, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a warrant.

* At 9:33 p.m. on Tuesday, Angel Lynn Chaliss, 50, Beech Grove, was taken into custody for operating while intoxicated with injury.

At 4:31 p.m. Donald Nelson Monroe II, 24, Cloverdale, was arrested for probation violation.

At 2:10 p.m. Jeremy Dale West, 39, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a warrant.

At 1:08 p.m. Briana Marie Jackson, 22, Greencastle, was charged with criminal trespass at the Greencastle Walmart store.

At 12:13 p.m. Jeffrey DeWayne Rhoades, 45, Blytheville, Ark., was booked in on a pair of warrants.

At 10:27 a.m. Jeffrey Nelson Hallett, 49, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a warrant.

City Police

Greencastle City Police officers investigated two recent traffic accidents.

* At 7:33 p.m. Tuesday, a two-car mishap was reported at Indianapolis Road and Percy Julian Drive.

Officer Brad Hiatt reported that Mikayla Kinner, 21, Cayuga, was eastbound on Indianapolis Road, driving a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta.

As Kinner entered the intersection at Percy Julian Drive, a westbound 2015 Nissan Sentra, driven by Anna Roach, 18, Coatesville, reportedly turned left in front of her and a collision occurred.

Total damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

* At 3:35 p.m. July 1, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on the Kroger parking lot off Indianapolis Road.

Reserve Officer Billy Wallace reported that a 2005 Subaru, driven by Sharon Arrington, 71, Greencastle, was backing from a parking space and collided with a 2016 Lexus, driven by Page Cotton Jr., 68, Greencastle.

Total damage was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

Three recent citations were issued by city officers.

* At 3:47 p.m. Wednesday, Devon Fitzsimmons, 20, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Kyle Lee.

Stopped on Percy Julian Drive, Fitzsimmons was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

* At 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Kyle Kelly, 23, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Lee.

Stopped near Washington and Arlington streets, Kelly was ticketed for having a false or fictitious registration and was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff's Department

Putnam County Sheriff's deputies responded to a pair of recent property-damage accidents.

* At 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Korbin E. Myers, 20, Waveland, was southbound on County Road 475 West in Montgomery County approaching a curve that turns east onto County Road 1400 North in Putnam County in a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu.

Myers told Lt. Donnie Pettit she swerved to miss a deer as she entered the curve, causing her to leave the south side of 1400 North. Her car hit a guy wire and continued into a cornfield.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 2:12 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, Timothy L. Silhavy, 59, Sheridan, was southbound on Jackson Street in Greencastle approaching Seminary Street in a 2010 Jeep Cherokee. Kristine R. Homler, 46, Genoa, Ohio, was northbound in the same area in a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox.

Silhavy told Deputy Scott Ducker he did not see Homler's vehicle and began to turn left onto Seminary. His failure to yield right-of-way caused his vehicle to strike Homler's in a near head-on collision.

Homler was treated for head pain by Operation Life.

Capt. Tom Helmer assisted Ducker at the scene.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to two dispatches and three lift assists.

* At 7:33 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a motor-vehicle accident that took place in front of the McDonald's restaurant at 940 Indianapolis Rd. GFD assisted with the cleanup process, returning to station at 10:20 p.m.

* At 12:29 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at Putnam County Hospital, 1542 Bloomington St. GFD found the alarm system was set on "test" with no real alarm activated. GFD subsequently returned to station at 12:47 p.m.
